Should I Upgrade My GPU or Help a Friend’s Girlfriend?

I'm building a hand-me-down system for my friend's girlfriend using my old components, as her current setup can't run Windows 11 anymore. She's been gaming on my old 980Ti at 1080p, mostly playing titles like Valheim, Borderlands, and heavily modded Skyrim. I have a series of GPUs ready to hand down: I'm using a 3080Ti, my GF has my old 3070, and my friend is using the 5700XT. The 980Ti would get passed on to her. I'm considering upgrading to a 5070Ti for around $1200 Canadian, which would allow me to pass GPUs down the line, giving everyone a decent upgrade. However, I'm also weighing the option of just getting her a more budget-friendly 3060Ti or similar for about $300. Since my 3080Ti still works great for me, especially at 3440x1440, I'm torn on whether I should upgrade for the benefit of the whole group or keep it simple and low-cost. What do you think?

If you all mainly play together, it might be more beneficial to upgrade those with the older cards. But maybe save the upgrade as a birthday or holiday gift. Just make sure everyone has decent power supplies to handle the newer cards!

Consider grabbing an RX 6800 for around $250. It’s a solid option that outperforms both the 3060Ti and the 6700XT. Plus, with 16GB of VRAM, it's ideal for budget 1440p gaming which could give your friend’s girlfriend a nice upgrade without breaking the bank.

Before deciding, you should probably ask if your friend's girlfriend is happy with the 980Ti as it is. If she doesn't mind it and isn't in need of an upgrade, it might not be worth the investment. You’ve been generous already, so maybe let her handle any upgrades herself if she wants something better.
