Should I Upgrade My Graphics Card or My Whole Setup?

Hey everyone, I'm considering upgrading my gaming rig, and I'd like to hear your thoughts. Right now, my setup includes an AMD Ryzen 9 7950X CPU, an ASUS Prime X670-P motherboard, 64GB of DDR5 RAM, and a 1000W power supply. I also have a 4TB SSD and I'm gaming on an ASUS ROG Swift OLED 27" monitor running at 1440P with a refresh rate of 480Hz.

I'm thinking about swapping my graphics card for a 5090, and eventually moving to a 4K monitor down the line. However, I'm worried about running into bottlenecks with my CPU or power supply. I've seen mixed opinions online—some benchmark sites suggest I might experience some bottlenecks at 1440P but not at 4K, and I'm not sure why that is.

Do you guys think it's necessary for me to upgrade my CPU and motherboard too, or will the new graphics card be sufficient?

Just want to add that the 5090 will be fine with your CPU. The PSU is definitely adequate but make sure nothing else is hogging too much power. The CPU won't really hold you back, especially at lower resolutions, so you should be set for a good while.

Your setup looks solid to me! I doubt you'll run into any bottlenecks with just the new graphics card. Your power supply should handle it without any issues, so you can focus on enjoying the upgrade instead of stressing over power or CPU limits.

Bottlenecks really depend on what kind of games you play. Honestly, those calculators aren't reliable at all. Upgrading to a 5090 should work great in your setup, but be aware the 5090 can pull around 575W on its own, so your power supply might be close to its limits. But if you're using DLSS at 1440P, you're effectively rendering at a lower resolution and upscale, which reduces the load on your CPU. Upgrading to an X3D CPU could help in some games that are more sensitive to CPU performance, but it really depends on your gaming preferences.

Honestly, a 5090 with your Ryzen 9 should mesh well together. The 7950X is a powerful CPU. Just keep an eye on your power usage; the 5090 does drain a bit. Don't worry about the motherboard affecting performance unless you're working with a budget board that can't keep up. It's really about what games you're playing and what settings you're using, so your current setup is more than capable for most scenarios!
