Should I Upgrade My Motherboard and CPU or Just Replace the Motherboard?

I'm currently running an Intel i9-13900K with 64GB of DDR5 RAM, an AMD 7900XTX GPU, and an ASUS ROG Z790 motherboard. My motherboard has stopped working with two sticks of RAM, and ASUS won't honor the warranty. I'm trying to decide if it's worth it to upgrade my motherboard and CPU or if I should simply buy a new Z790 board since I'm done with the whole troubleshooting process. Any advice?

You don’t really need to upgrade; your current setup is pretty solid. If you have a local computer shop, they might be able to test your CPU for you. If it turns out just the motherboard is faulty, you can easily swap that out.

Honestly, just replace the board. Scrapping the whole setup isn’t worth it when you’ve already got solid parts. You’d probably see minimal speed improvement by starting from scratch.

If you're not interested in troubleshooting the current issues, I suggest just going for a new Z790 board. The 13900K is still a strong CPU, so there's no real reason to switch it out.

I feel you on the troubleshooting! I went through a similar headache. Thanks for the reassurance!

If you’re unsure about the CPU, it might be worth considering a switch to LGA 1851 with a new motherboard and CPU, but it really depends on what your performance needs are.

The most economical choice would be to get another Z790 motherboard, especially if you've kept it updated with the latest BIOS. Upgrading to AM5 could work, but you’d need a better CPU like the 9700X to match your current performance.
