Should I Upgrade My Old PC or Get a Prebuilt?

I've got an older computer that's pretty much a paperweight at this point. The specs are outdated—I've got a GTX 1070, an i7-7700K running at 4.2GHz, 16GB of 2400MHz RAM, and a Z270 ROG motherboard. I've been thinking about upgrading but I'm torn between getting a prebuilt system or just upgrading individual parts. Also, I've been shocked by the price of SSDs lately—are they really around $600? What do you guys think? What's the best way to get back into gaming without breaking the bank?

Your current setup isn't terrible; you can definitely breathe new life into it with just a GPU upgrade. If you overclock your RAM using XMP, that could help too. Pairing a new GPU with a decent 1440p monitor might let you play most games without needing a whole new rig. Take it slow and see how your upgrades play out!

I'm planning to get new RAM soon after rent is sorted. Thinking of adding an SSD or a GPU along the way. If I end up needing a new motherboard, I might just go all-in and build from scratch!
