Should I Upgrade My PC to AM5 or Stick with AM4?

Hey everyone! I recently bought a new 27-inch, 1440p, 180Hz monitor and I'm looking to upgrade my PC. My current setup includes a Ryzen 5500 CPU, RX 5700 XT GPU, 750W PSU, and 16GB of 3200MHz DDR4 RAM. I'm wondering if I should stay with the AM4 platform or make the jump to AM5. I'm considering getting the Ryzen 5700X3D for about $275, plus adding another 16GB of RAM for around $40. Would this be a solid choice? Also, if I upgrade to the 5700X3D, what GPU would go well with it? Would a 5070 Ti fit, or might it bottleneck? Or should I just upgrade entirely to AM5? The cost for a Ryzen 9600X, 32GB of DDR5, and a B650 motherboard would be about $525. Would this new setup be noticeably better with the 5070 Ti?

Honestly, I recommend going for AM5. AM4 is pretty much over and won't be getting any future upgrades. If you're set on a long-term investment, consider getting a Ryzen 7700X or 9700X, along with 32GB of RAM. A GPU like the 5070 Ti or even a 4070 Ti would be a fantastic match. If you can stretch your budget a bit more, a Ryzen 9 7900X or 9900X would be even better. Check out Intel as well, the 14700K and 13600K are solid options too!

I get that AM4 is kinda a dead end, but I probably won’t be upgrading for the next 2-3 years. So I’ll definitely consider AM6 when it comes out.

That makes sense! Sticking with AM4 for now sounds reasonable if you're not upgrading anytime soon. Just keep your options open for future builds!

Upgrading to the 5700X3D is definitely a solid decision. Plus, adding another 16GB of RAM will future-proof your setup and help with gaming. The 5070 Ti should pair nicely with the 5700X3D, but just double-check if your PSU is ATX 3 certified to avoid any issues. Just a heads-up, I know the 5700X3D can struggle a bit with 1% lows, which might matter if you're sensitive to stuttering in games.

As long as your PSU is stable, you should be fine! The performance will depend on the games you play, but generally, it should hold up.

My PSU is the MSI MPG A750GF. I'm mainly worried about the 5700X3D underperforming with the 5070 Ti, especially since I'm sensitive to stutters during gaming. What do you think?
