I'm considering whether it's worth upgrading from my Ryzen 5 2600X to a Ryzen 7 5800X in 2025. Currently, I don't have the budget for an AM5 upgrade, so should I stick with AM4 until AM6 comes out, or is this a good time to upgrade to AM5 next year?

It really depends on your gaming setup. If your current CPU isn't keeping up with your GPU, then upgrading makes sense. For most setups with a GPU worse than the 5060, the 2600X should still hold up pretty well.

I actually have an RTX 5060 with my 2600X, and I’ve noticed about a 25% bottleneck from the CPU.

Totally agree with you on that!

Why are you focused on the 5800X? The performance difference from the 5700X isn’t huge, and the prices can vary a lot.

If you're mainly gaming, the 5700X3D could offer you better performance. But in the long run, it might be wiser to just save up for an AM5 upgrade instead, especially since AM6 isn’t expected until 2028 or 2029.

Consider the 5700X; you’ll see a significant CPU performance boost without changing the number of cores. If gaming is your goal, the 5700X3D is a stronger option, but it might be hard to find at a good price now since it's no longer in production. Upgrading from 2600X to either the 5700X or 5800X is a solid choice overall.

It’s all about the price and what you’re using your PC for. If you find that your games aren’t running smoothly with the 2600X, and the upgrade is around $100, it could be worth it. But if it’s just for a higher FPS in some idle game, it might not be worth the cash. Also, consider looking at the 5700X as a more budget-friendly option, which might run cooler too.
