Should I Upgrade My Ryzen 5 5600 for Better 2K Gaming Performance?

I recently bought a pre-built PC with a Ryzen 5 5600 CPU paired with an RTX 4060 Ti and it's been performing decently. I also got a 2K OLED monitor, and while gaming is generally smooth, I'm starting to wonder if my CPU is holding back my GPU performance, especially at this higher resolution. I'm considering upgrading to a Ryzen 7 5700X or the 5700X3D, but I know my system is on an AM4 platform and switching to AM5 would be costly. Any advice on whether an upgrade is worthwhile?

To figure out if your CPU is bottlenecking your GPU, check the GPU usage in your games. If it's hitting close to 100%, then it's not your CPU causing issues. With higher resolutions like 2K, the load usually leans more on the GPU than the CPU, so it might be working fine overall. Upgrading to a 5700X isn't a big leap for gaming, and the 5700X3D is pretty hard to find these days at reasonable prices.

Honestly, your RTX 4060 should handle 1440p just fine with the Ryzen 5 5600. I have a similar setup and it's looking good. If you're already feeling the urge to upgrade just because it's Black Friday, you might want to hold off. Save up for a more significant jump to AM5 in the future.

I think going for a new CPU is probably not worth it. My R5 3600 paired with a 4070 does technically bottleneck, but it's still performing well at 2K. Your Ryzen 5 5600 is already better. Save that cash and wait until you really need the AM5 jump instead.

There's data showing that the Ryzen 5 5600 can hold its ground against strong GPUs like the RTX 4070 at 1440p. Plus, many games are more GPU-dependent than CPU-dependent, especially at higher resolutions. So, I would recommend against the upgrade right now!
