Should I Upgrade My Ryzen 5 5600X for Better Gaming Performance?

I'm considering whether I should upgrade the CPU in my gaming setup. Ideally, I'd want to switch to either a Ryzen 7 5800X3D or a 5700X3D, but they're nearly impossible to find new, and the prices for used ones are through the roof. Also, moving to an AM5 platform is not feasible for me right now because DDR5 prices are way too high.

At the moment, I'm thinking about swapping out my Ryzen 5 5600X for a Ryzen 7 5700X, 5800XT, or 5800X. Will these upgrades provide any significant performance boost, or would I be better off holding out until DDR5 prices stabilize? I game at a 1440p resolution, and I'm curious about the meaningful impact of these upgrades.

I'd advise against upgrading right now. These newer CPUs will only give you a slight performance bump at best. If you’re looking for an upgrade that really counts, the Ryzen 7 5800X3D is the only one worth waiting for, thanks to its 3D V-Cache. Prices seem to be dropping slowly, so it might be worth holding off a bit longer for that.

For sure, keep the 5600X! I mean, any swap to those other CPUs right now would just be a non-essential expense. The performance at 1440p is way more about your GPU—yours is great! If anything, just optimize your current CPU and save up for AM5 down the line when it's more affordable.

In terms of gaming, I'd say it’s not really worth upgrading from a 5600X unless you have specific games that can truly utilize those extra cores. Have you considered overclocking your current CPU? That could give you a nice performance boost without the cost of a new one.

I haven't overclocked yet. The most demanding game on my list is probably Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024, but I also play a lot of online games and some AAA titles.

Sticking with your 5600X is a good move. Your CPU is solid for gaming at 1440p, and getting something like the 5800X or 5700X might just feel like a sideways step rather than a true upgrade. Plus, in a year or so, you might find better CPUs at decent prices. Just optimize your current setup for now!

Honestly, moving from the 5600X to a 5800XT gives you about a 4-7% improvement. Not exactly a game-changer. I'd stash your cash and wait for better options. Maybe look into the AM5 upgrades when the market settles down.
