Yesterday, my computer unexpectedly restarted and entered hard drive repair mode. After it finished, I found myself locked out of my D: drive, but I managed to fix that by changing the owner. However, I also noticed that quite a few files, especially photos, were deleted. Additionally, I'm receiving a warning saying, "Recycle Bin on D: is corrupted. Do you want to empty the Recycle Bin for this drive?" I'm curious about what might have caused this issue. Is my drive failing, and is there any way I can recover the lost files?

First, I recommend running a tool like CrystalDisk Info to check the health of your drive. If your drive is from a brand like Samsung or WD, their specific software like Samsung Magician or WD Dashboard can provide deeper insights. If you see any signs of failure, power off your computer and disconnect the drive. Then, look into data recovery software—both free and paid options are available. Keep in mind that if your missing files are on damaged sectors, there might be a chance you won't be able to recover those.

I've just started using Disk Drill for recovery, and so far it's detecting the photos that were deleted. I'm only 5% into it, but there's hope! I'll check CrystalDisk immediately after.
