Hey folks, I'm looking for some advice about the LG UltraGear 27GX790A-B monitor. It's a 27" 1440p OLED with a crazy 480Hz refresh rate, and I'm currently running an RTX 4070 Super paired with a Ryzen 7 7800X3D. I'm into competitive gaming, with Marvel Rivals being my current go-to, where I typically hit around 250 stable FPS. I'm aware I could get even higher frame rates in lighter games, but I've been using a 6-year-old AOC 144Hz 1080p monitor, so this would be a significant upgrade.
I'm wondering if the 480Hz is overkill for my setup and gaming style. Should I just opt for a 240Hz OLED instead, or would I notice real benefits from the 480Hz when playing?
Also, I want to avoid regrets—if I buy a 480Hz monitor, I don't want to find out I can't fully utilize it in most games. On the flip side, I don't want to go for a 240Hz display if I can squeeze out 400+ FPS in games like OW2 or Valorant. Any insights would be super helpful, especially from anyone who's made a similar upgrade!

Honestly, you're not likely to hit 480fps in most games, so the 240Hz option might be the smarter buy. At this point, you're entering diminishing returns in performance for the price. If you're low on cash, stick with the 240Hz; it's still a solid upgrade over your current setup, and the main draw here is the OLED quality anyway!
Generally speaking, a higher refresh rate is a good thing, especially since you're getting an OLED display to boot. If you can afford the 480Hz, it could be worthwhile just for the enhanced visuals and responsiveness. It ultimately comes down to whether you want to have the best setup possible. Go big or go home, right?
I should've mentioned that I mostly play FPS games like Marvel Rivals, OW2, and Valorant. Do you think my specs can push beyond 400 FPS at 1440p in those titles?
