Should I upgrade to a Ryzen 5700X, 5700X3D, or 5800X3D for Gaming?

I'm currently using a Ryzen 5 3600 and a GTX 1080 that I built back in 2020. I mainly play League of Legends and Valorant, and have noticed some performance dips, particularly in League. I'm looking for a CPU upgrade that will last me a long time, ideally over 5 years, and I need to stay with the AM4 platform since I have 32 GB of RAM.

I'm stuck between the options of the 5700X at CAD 230, the 5700X3D at CAD 380, and the 5800X3D at CAD 460. The 3D CPUs are available through a wholesaler, while the 5700X is from a reputable retailer. Additionally, I have a 165Hz monitor and aim for over 165 FPS at all times while gaming on my two 1440p monitors. What do you all think?

Your current setup is actually above the recommended for those games. Before jumping into a new CPU, try some troubleshooting. Update your drivers and BIOS, check your HDD for issues, and make sure you have enough free space. I played League fine on much lower specs. Consider optimizing your settings before spending on a new CPU.

Great advice! I’ll definitely go through your checklist before making any purchases. Just to add, I've got Spotify, Discord, and more running on two 1440p monitors. I feel like an upgrade is justified since I’ve noticed some bottlenecks.

Totally get that! With two monitors and all those apps running, a CPU upgrade might really help.

Upgrading to the 5700X will definitely give you a solid boost. But consider looking at the 7600X as an alternative, especially if you can sell some of your old parts. It might open doors for future upgrades on a newer platform. The AM4 X3D options are getting a bit pricey since supplies are drying up, so keep that in mind!

Thanks for the advice! A few others mentioned the 7600X, too, so I’ll weigh that option more seriously.

What do you think about maxing out AM4 with an X3D and upgrading to AM5 later?

Answered By GameChanger99 On

I'd recommend going for the 5800X3D. It leaves you some room to upgrade your GPU later, like moving to something in the 5070 family.

Thanks for the suggestion!

Between the 5700X3D and 5800X3D, there's not much difference in speed, so I think it's wiser to skip the 5700X. Consider the long-term investment in your CPU and GPU together, especially if the prices are climbing so much.

If you're set on AM4, I'd suggest the 5700X3D as it offers the best bang for your buck. You'll gain a good performance increase just by swapping it out.

You can't really have the best of both worlds if you're hoping for a long-lasting setup and sticking with AM4. If you want future-proofing, consider moving to AM5 and getting a 7600X or higher. The X3D options might not last as long as you'd hope. Also check out some bundle deals for RAM upgrades; they can be beneficial!

I had no idea about bundle deals! That could be a game-changer.

What makes you think X3Ds won't last long? They seem solid for gaming.
