I'm considering upgrading my CPU from a Ryzen 3600. I can buy a 5700X for around $150, or I could opt for a Ryzen 7600X3D with a new AM5 motherboard and 32GB of RAM for about $400. Which option would be the better choice and why?

For sure, pick the 7600X3D. It's going to give you a solid performance boost and is supported for years. I’m using a 9900X3D and it outperforms my old 12900KF. If you can, grab 32GB of CL30 RAM too - sounds like a solid deal!
It really depends on what GPU you have right now. If you're only using something like a 3060, you might want to hold off on upgrading the whole platform. Upgrading to a 5700X from a 3600 isn't a huge leap in gaming performance. Maybe prioritize upgrading your GPU instead!
I'd definitely go for the 7600X3D. It's way faster and will support AM5 for a couple more CPU generations, which is great for future upgrades. If you're willing to spend, the 5700X3D or 5800X3D might be a good choice too, and it could work on your current motherboard with just a BIOS update, saving you some hassle.
That's a good point! I didn't think about how my GPU would affect the upgrade. Maybe I should focus on that first before getting a new CPU.
