Should I Upgrade to AM4 or Save for AM5?

I'm considering an upgrade from my Ryzen 3600 since it's really bottlenecking my RX 9060 XT. I'm thinking about getting the Ryzen 7 5700X3D, which is currently priced around $360 on eBay. Is it worth upgrading to that, or should I just save for a complete move to the AM5 platform?

Since you’re looking for performance, upgrading to something like the 5800XT is a good choice. Just remember, if you don't have DDR5 RAM sitting around, it might not be worth the cost to jump up to AM5 yet.

If you're sticking with AM4, consider the Ryzen 5 5600X or even the 5800X, as those might be a good middle ground without breaking the bank. You could find them on the used market for a reasonable price, so check that out!

If you have any plans to eventually go AM5, you might want to focus your savings on that instead of putting money into AM4. DDR5 prices are pretty crazy right now, but an upgrade to a 5800XT is still a solid option if you're looking to maximize performance without going completely new.

I wouldn't rush into AM5 unless you've already got DDR5 RAM. If not, keep on AM4 and maybe pick up a Ryzen 5 5500X or something similarly priced on AliExpress; that could serve you well for now!

Honestly, paying $360 for the 5700X3D seems a bit steep. You could find a 5600X for around $110 or even grab a whole new motherboard and CPU bundle at Microcenter for about $500 if you want a significant upgrade. That's a smarter investment in the long run!
