I'm looking to refresh my gaming setup primarily for 1440p gaming at 144fps. Currently, I have an Intel i5 9600K overclocked to 4.6GHz, an RTX 3080 Ti, and an old set of GSkill Ripjaws DDR4-2666 RAM (2x8GB). My better GSkill DDR4-3600 2x16GB kit is on RMA due to frequent BSODs. I want to know if I should stick with DDR4 or switch to DDR5 once my RMA is resolved. My budget is between 1000 and 1250 CAD, and I want to ensure my CPU and RAM won't bottleneck my performance for the next few years. Depending on the RMA outcome, I'm considering selling the new RAM for DDR5, using it for my current build, or moving to a better DDR4 platform. If my RMA is rejected, is a DDR4 build still viable, or should I go for a DDR5 setup instead?

Honestly, if DDR5 prices are through the roof, sticking with a DDR4 setup could be your best bet, especially since you're on a budget. The Intel i5-14600KF is a solid choice if you go that route along with a B760 motherboard that supports DDR4. Just keep your eyes open for sales—it can be worth it!
If you're leaning towards DDR5, the AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D is a great option for performance but be ready for costs to be high. Just RAM alone can push you past your budget! If finances are tight, maybe wait things out a bit or look for deals!
The 7800X3D could work, but you might want to look for something that offers better value if you're not ready to break the bank.
You might want to consider the i5-14600KF, it's reliable and pretty close in performance to the i7-14700KF without the higher price tag. Plus, you could save some cash for a future GPU upgrade, which might be more critical for 1440p gaming! Check it out—I can drop a PCPartPicker link if you want!
Thanks for the suggestion! I'm curious, is the B series good for overclocking? I remember the Z boards were better for that.
From what I hear, B series boards can handle some overclocking, but if you're serious about it, Z boards typically have better VRMs. Just something to consider!

I get that, but spending more for a marginal boost in performance isn't ideal. What do you think about the 7800X3D compared to the 9800X3D?
