I'm considering upgrading my R5 5600 to one of the best CPUs available for the AM4 platform but can't decide between the R7 5700X3D and the R9 5900X. Gaming is my biggest hobby, with a preference for AAA shooters like Battlefield, simulation games such as KSP and DCS, as well as AAA open-world RPGs like Cyberpunk and RDR2. I've heard that the R7 5700X3D might be better for gaming. However, I'm also starting my Computer Science degree where I'll be involved in activities like CAD, AI development, and video editing—areas that seem to favor the higher core count of the R9 5900X. Additionally, I host game servers but plan to build a dedicated PC for that. My current setup includes a Strix B450 motherboard, RTX 3070, and 48GB of RAM. Both CPUs are priced around $235 used. What do you think would be the best fit for my needs?
