I'm looking to upgrade my home PC for work because I need more RAM for tasks involving 3D modeling. The program I'm using, 3D Slicer, requires 64 GB of RAM for smooth operation. However, my motherboard can only support 64 GB total, which means I must use four 16 GB sticks instead of two 32 GB sticks. I've heard that using four sticks can have downsides, primarily for gaming, but I'm not concerned about that. If I'm okay with potentially slower performance for other processes, is using four sticks a viable option, or would I need to replace my motherboard? I doubt I'll need more than 64 GB in the future, so I'm hoping to avoid that extra cost.

I'd say four sticks should work just fine for your setup. Just make sure to check your motherboard's specs to confirm it can handle it. And honestly, with 3D modeling, having that extra RAM can definitely help, so it's worth trying for sure!
It really depends on your motherboard model, but if it supports 64 GB total, you should be fine with four sticks. The worst case is you might need to lower the RAM speed to get stability, but even then, it’ll be faster than running just 32 GB. So go for it!

Got it, thanks for the heads up!
