I have an HP Pavilion laptop that suddenly stopped working a few days ago. It prompts for the BitLocker key, but after attempting to diagnose the problem, it fails and keeps looping. When I opt for the advanced options, it indicates a battery issue, but the repair shop told me that the SSD is physically broken. They were unable to recover my files. I'm considering drying it out since it might have been water damaged, and I'm also thinking about purchasing a €35 ACT USB-C M.2 NVMe PCIe SSD enclosure. Alternatively, could I install the SSD into my boyfriend's custom-built PC to get my Word documents? I realize I should have backed them up. Am I completely out of luck, or do I have options to try and recover my data?

You might have a shot at retrieving your files since you can access another computer. First, check if your boyfriend’s PC has a free M.2 slot for the SSD. If there's no slot, then getting that enclosure could be worth it. Just keep in mind that if the SSD is not recognized, the odds of recovery without professional help are pretty low.

Yeah, it’s tough to face that reality. I've heard data recovery services can cost a fortune here in Europe, starting around €1100. But if the files aren't super critical, maybe it's worth a DIY attempt after you dry it out. Good luck!
