We're transitioning from spreadsheets and are trying to decide on the best approach for a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS). Lighter tools might be easier to implement, but as we grow, we may need more robust solutions. We're considering options like Mpulse CMMS along with some simpler alternatives. If you have experience with this transition, what do you wish you had chosen earlier? Should we start with something simple or go for a scalable option from the beginning?

Just a quick note, it might be helpful to clarify what CMMS stands for, since the acronym can mean different things in various industries. In my field, healthcare, it’s quite different than for you guys.
When I was exploring CMMS about 5 years back, I didn't even consider Mpulse. My top picks were Fleetio and Eptura (formerly Manager Plus). Looking back, I really wish I had gone with Fleetio; switching systems now is a pain. Also, I had issues with Eptura's support, so be cautious with that one!
The main thing to think about is not just whether to pick simple or robust, but how disciplined your team is. A powerful CMMS is only valuable if you have solid workflows, data standards, and people actually using it. If your team isn't logging work orders properly, a bigger system might just end up as expensive unused software.
