Some Games Connect, But Others Don’t – What’s Going On?

I'm facing a frustrating issue with my internet connection. It seems my home network can connect to some games like Call of Duty, Monster Hunter World, and Terraria, but I can't connect to others such as Battlefield 2042, Splitgate 2, Helldivers 2, and The Finals. I've already reached out to AT&T support twice; they helped with port forwarding for the games and allowed my PC's IP through the firewall. Sometimes I can connect, but then the same day, or the next, it just stops working. Any ideas on what the problem could be?

It’s tough to pinpoint without specifics. A few things to test: try disabling your Windows firewall to see if that changes anything. Also, check your antivirus; it might be filtering your online traffic. Can you see if the games work on a different machine or network? Remember, online games can use various ports, so if AT&T only opened one, you might still be blocked on others. Make sure to check what ports those games need and whitelist them if possible.

I think The Finals would probably work on my Xbox, so there’s something weird going on with my PC!

It sounds like a tricky issue! Have you tried connecting your phone to the internet and sharing the connection through USB? If that works, your router or modem might be the problem. If it doesn’t, the issue could be with your PC. Also, I’ve heard that some ISPs have issues when they primarily use IPv6, and using a VPN can occasionally help as a temporary fix.
