I recently started using Linux Mint and I'm trying to get my Epson photo R1900 printer set up. I've got the drivers installed and it can print, but I want to check the ink levels and run print head cleaning. From what I've read, I need to use a tool called mtink for that. However, when I open mtink, I get the message "No access to printer drive file." I found some old forum threads suggesting to "run it with sudo," which I tried, but then got a bunch of warning messages about font conversions. I'm really stuck and would appreciate any help or advice on what I'm doing wrong and what steps I should take next!

Have you installed CUPS? It's essential for printer management on Linux. There's likely a driver package available for your older printer. The link I found might help you get the utility software working properly. It’s super helpful for managing printers in Linux Mint!

CUPS is already installed on my system, and that guide helped. However, I'm still facing issues because the printer won’t show up as an option for printing. I'm working on it!
