Struggling to Get My HP LaserJet P1102 Printer Working on Linux

Hey everyone! I recently switched to Linux and had a smooth experience until I tried to set up my HP LaserJet P1102 printer. I can't seem to get the drivers to work no matter what I try. The only success I've had was on Zorin OS, where HPLIP and automatic plugin handling worked like a charm. I really want to get this printer running on other distros like Rawhide, Trixie, Tumbleweed, and Arch. Does anyone have tips or tricks that can help?

From what I've seen, the HP LaserJet P1102 requires a plugin along with HPLIP to work properly on Linux. You should manually run the 'hp-setup' command in the terminal to download the necessary plugin; sometimes the automated process doesn't cut it. Check the HP documentation for details on how to do this.

Remember to always specify your distro and any relevant hardware details when asking for help. It makes it easier for folks to assist you!

Good point! Details can definitely help narrow down the problem.

For a lot of Linux distros, the best first step is to connect your printer via USB. Most systems will automatically detect it and install the necessary drivers for you. After that, you can switch it back to Wi-Fi and use the printer configuration tools to add it back using the same drivers detected via USB.

I had a similar issue, but I ended up connecting my HP Laser printer to my wife's Windows machine using the HP software to set it up on Wi-Fi. After that, all my devices picked it up right away.

I've had my share of issues with HP products on Linux as well. Be prepared for some tinkering! Compatibility should always be checked before buying components if you're building a Linux machine.

I’m using Linux Mint, and it detected my HP LaserJet 650 without any hassle! Works perfectly, though I need to use the scanner app that Mint provides to handle scanning.
