Struggling to Mod Games on Linux, Any Advice?

I've been having a tough time modding games on Linux, especially Red Dead Redemption 2 (RDR2). It's really frustrating! I've spent the last month trying to get mods working with no luck. I've extracted LML, ASI, and Script Hook V2 into the game's directory, but nothing seems to work. I also tried adjusting the Wine prefix, but then I got an error saying that Rockstar doesn't support Windows Vista. I'm at my wit's end! Can anyone help me get this sorted? I'm using Arch Linux with KDE Plasma and only play games via Steam. My PC specs are AMD Ryzen 7 5700X3D CPU, GeForce RTX 3060 GPU, and 32GB of RAM. Any tips would be greatly appreciated!

Have you considered changing the Windows version in winecfg to 10? That’s a common fix for weird issues. Just don’t forget to run winecfg in the right prefix!

I’m also using Arch and haven’t done much modding lately. I managed to get r2modman working for the games I like without too much hassle. Installing it took a bit of figuring out since it’s not in the AUR, but it was only about a half-hour of work.

When using Proton, make sure it’s picking the right DLLs. Sometimes it defaults to the ones in the WINE_PREFIX instead of the new ones in the game folder. You can run winecfg in the correct prefix and override the built-in DLL settings for your mods. Also, double-check that your WINE_PREFIX isn’t accidentally set to Windows Vista.

In my experience, if you just do everything like on Windows within the Proton prefix, it usually works out. That said, I haven’t tried modding RDR2 specifically.

You might want to try running your .exe patches through Lutris for compatibility. Just drag and drop your zip files to the correct locations, and that could help get things set up correctly.
