I've just started using Linux Mint on my old desktop and it's been a mixed bag. Most things are working well, but I've encountered a few significant issues. Firstly, when it comes to gaming, I attempted to use Steam, but it won't open, and the steamwebhelper has been unresponsive. I also tried Lutris, which fails to launch games about 99% of the time, and the occasions it does, they crash after a short while. I even tried running a game with Wine in the terminal, but the performance was pretty terrible. Secondly, I've had trouble with app installations; some software repositories just don't seem to work for no clear reason. Lastly, I was hoping for better performance than Windows 10, but I'm actually experiencing slower startup times of around 1.5 minutes compared to Windows' 40 seconds. I'm feeling a little lost here!

Have you run 'apt update'? That's critical for package installs. And by "refused to open" do you mean the game just hangs on loading? If that's the case, it might be an issue with Proton settings in Steam. Make sure you check that when you get got it up and running.

I’ve got the specs now—Cinnamon version 6.4.8, Intel i3 550, and 6GB RAM. Also, it’s integrated graphics, so that might be a factor.
Yes, I've been doing regular updates. When I click to play, it just hangs for a few seconds and then goes back to ‘Play’ as if nothing happened—pretty frustrating.
