I just installed Pop!_OS a few days ago, and I'm having some serious trouble with my Nvidia drivers. I don't have any experience with GPUs or drivers, so I'm not really sure where to start. I keep getting an error saying it can't communicate with the driver. I've tried looking for solutions online, but nothing seems to work. Can anyone help me figure out what's wrong and what information I need to provide to get assistance?

You might sort out this issue, but keep in mind that Pop!_OS is Debian-based and can often feel outdated. Consider trying Fedora or Arch Linux for a more cutting-edge experience. They might be trickier to set up, but they'll provide better support for your hardware in the long run. Just so you know, the `nvidia-smi` command should ideally work without throwing that error if everything is set up correctly. One possible issue could be that Secure Boot is enabled, which can interfere with Nvidia drivers.
Hey there! To help you out effectively, can you tell us how you installed the Nvidia driver and the exact error message you're seeing? That info will definitely clarify things!
The error I'm getting is: 'NVIDIA-SMI has failed because it couldn't communicate with the NVIDIA driver. Make sure that the latest NVIDIA driver is installed and running.' That’s all I can find.
Knowing your GPU model and the driver version would be super helpful! What does your system say?
I have a GP107 [GeForce GTX 1050]. It looks like it lists 'nouveau' as the driver.
This is my first time with Linux, and I've heard Arch can be tough for newbies. I love tech and do programming as a hobby, so I'm eager to learn. Do you think it would be too much of a leap to jump into Arch right now?
