Struggling with Windows 11: Window Resizing and File Explorer Freezing Issues

Hey everyone! I've recently switched from Mac to Windows 11 and I'm running into a couple of frustrating issues. First off, resizing windows feels really annoying; it seems like I only have about 2 pixels of space to hit the 'resize cursor,' and it takes me ages to adjust a window properly—like 5 to 10 seconds just hovering around! Secondly, I'm having trouble with File Explorer freezing. It feels like about 50% of the time when I try to move or delete files, a progress window pops up and takes forever to complete the action. This slow response was the same on my old PC, so I was hoping my new setup would solve it, but no luck. Just to give you an idea, I usually keep my PC pretty clear—nothing crazy running and my SSD is only half full. Here are my specs: Windows 11 Pro, Intel Core i9-13900KF, MSI MPG Z790 EDGE WIFI, RTX 4090, 64GB DDR5 RAM, and a 2TB SSD. Any advice on how to make these issues better?

Hey! I totally get your struggle with resizing windows; those borders can be tricky! But, you might actually have about 10 pixels of width to work with. Make sure your mouse and mousepad are good quality, as it can really help! As for the File Explorer freezing, I’ve found that delays can happen if you have mapped network drives or are using slow USB drives. Do you have a network drive attached? That could be worth checking out.

Thanks for the tips! I'm using an MX Master 3S and a decent mousepad, but I still face the resizing problem. I do have a network drive, so I’ll look into how that might be affecting things.

One thing you can try is tweaking some settings for File Explorer. Go to "This PC," right-click and look for Properties, then check the advanced settings. You can disable some visual effects that slow things down, like shadows under the mouse. Also, consider manually setting your virtual memory to 8192MB since that can help manage performance.

For the resizing issue specifically, here's a workaround: Open Registry Editor and navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USERControl PanelDesktopWindowMetrics. Change the PaddedBorderWidth value to -200 (the default is -60), then log out and back in. This should give you a wider area to grab the bottom corners of your windows!
