Hey everyone! I'm in the process of building a new PC tailored for editing photos in Lightroom and videos using Davinci Resolve. I've put together a list of components based on some initial feedback, and I'm hoping to get more insights before I make a purchase. Specifically, I'm wondering if I should upgrade to the X870E motherboard for the 40Gb USB-C ports, as well as if anyone has recommendations for a case with the ports and buttons positioned on top. I've been pondering over this setup for a bit, and with prices increasing, it's time to finalize my decisions. Just a heads-up, I'm located in Canada, so all prices are CAD. Here's the components list:

- **CPU**: AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D 4.3 GHz 16-Core Processor ($959.00 @ Newegg Canada)
- **CPU Cooler**: ARCTIC Liquid Freezer III Pro 360 77 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler ($179.99 @ Amazon Canada)
- **Motherboard**: Gigabyte X870 EAGLE WIFI7 ATX AM5 Motherboard ($289.95 @ Vuugo)
- **Memory**: G.Skill Flare X5 64 GB (2 x 32 GB) DDR5-6000 CL30 Memory ($284.99 @ Memory Express)
- **Storage**: Samsung 990 Pro 1 TB M.2-2280 PCIe 4.0 X4 NVME SSD ($159.99 @ Vuugo)
- **Storage**: Samsung 990 Pro 2 TB M.2-2280 PCIe 4.0 X4 NVME SSD ($231.95 @ Vuugo)
- **Video Card**: Gigabyte WINDFORCE OC SFF GeForce RTX 5070 Ti 16 GB Video Card ($1198.99 @ Vuugo)
- **Case**: Thermaltake View 270 Plus TG ARGB ATX Mid Tower Case ($114.99 @ Amazon Canada)
- **Power Supply**: MSI MAG A750GL PCIE5 750 W 80+ Gold Certified Fully Modular ATX Power Supply ($139.99 @ Amazon Canada)
- **Mouse**: Logitech MX MASTER 3S Wireless Optical Mouse ($159.99 @ Lenovo)

Total projected cost: $3719.83. Thanks in advance for any tips!

I mean... you’re asking for budget advice after listing a $4K setup! It’s an awesome build though. If you care more about performance than aesthetics, maybe look into solid cases from Fractal Design. They tend to be functionally excellent.

Haha point taken! I'm focused primarily on performance, but I’ll check Fractal out for sure.

If the main workload includes heavy multitasking, you could also look into the Intel Ultra 9 CPUs which provide excellent performance in content creation. Your current setup will handle what you need well, but the Intel option might give you extra cores for rendering.

Thanks! I’ve been away from building for about 4 years so I appreciate the reassurance. I might swap out the 9950X3D, though!

Also, about those 40Gb ports: Intel motherboards usually come with Thunderbolt support out of the box, making it easier to get those high-speed ports. Just an option to keep in mind!

Thanks! That's definitely something to consider. I might play around with Intel options as well.

Hey! If you're mainly using this PC for editing and not gaming, I'd say you might want to consider swapping that Ryzen 9 9950X3D for the 9950X. The 3D V-Cache mainly boosts gaming performance and you might not see much of a difference for your tasks, saving you about $200.

Totally agree! I did some research and found that for tasks like video and photo editing, the difference isn't significant enough to justify the cost of the X3D.

Thanks for the input, I'm leaning towards the 9950X for sure!

One last thing: would going for DDR5-8000 memory instead of the 6000 make a noticeable difference?
