Hey everyone, I recently got my laptop back from a repair shop that I thought was reputable, but I'm starting to suspect that something fishy is going on. I originally bought a laptop that was supposed to have a 512GB SSD and 16GB of RAM. However, when I try to install anything, it shows that I only have 99.8GB total available memory. I checked the task manager, and it states that Google Chrome is using 1.8GB of my RAM, which accounts for 34% of the total. The GPU info shows 8GB of GPU memory but 7.6GB of shared GPU memory, so I think the RAM is alright. But could there be something else happening, or is fraud the most likely explanation?

Honestly, it's unlikely anyone is stealing super cheap hardware like a 500GB SSD or RAM from a laptop nowadays, especially since most laptops don't even allow you to replace RAM easily. You might just not be fully understanding the specs of your laptop. Have you checked if your hard drive has unallocated space in disk management? That could be an issue too. And by the way, no one’s going to lose money stealing those parts; it just doesn’t add up.
It sounds like you're misunderstanding how storage works. When you're installing something, it's showing how much free disk space you have, not memory. If you only have a 512GB SSD, it makes sense that you could have 99GB free – that just means your disk space is limited. You might want to check your disk manager to verify how much is being used and what’s free.
The storage page says I have 99.8GB total, 53.7GB used, and 43GB free.
I think you're worried unnecessarily. You have a 512GB SSD, which is now showing about 99GB total available – meaning you’ve probably installed a bunch of programs. It’s kind of normal for storage to be eaten up as you install stuff; that’s why checking the disk manager can be key. And hey, 1.8GB for Chrome? That’s pretty typical usage these days too.
I mentioned before that I'm down to 43GB free... I definitely had more before the repair.
It's not likely there's any fraud here. Check the BIOS for your SSD specs. As for the RAM, be aware that the percentage you're seeing could be for your entire RAM usage, not just for Chrome. Maybe screenshot your Task Manager and BIOS details to share with us? That could help clear things up!

Yeah, living in Egypt can lead to stranger things, but I'm just trying to figure out if there's a risk they might have accessed anything personal. I just feel uneasy.
