If you're on a budget, you might want to consider getting a pre-built Steam Machine that comes with Steam OS. It's designed for gaming and can double as a desktop. But if you're committed to building your own, just be ready to research a lot! Compatibility and stability really depend on the components you choose. For instance, AMD cards usually work better with Linux than Nvidia cards, but things are constantly changing.
