Thinking About Switching to Linux: Can I Keep My Favorite Games?

I'm considering making the switch to Linux because Windows has caused issues with many of my games. However, I'm unsure if I can still use some of my favorite applications like the Roblox player and studio, Discord, Minecraft Bedrock Edition, Helldivers 2, and The First Descendant. I've heard mixed things about whether these will work under Linux, and I'd really appreciate any insights or guidance you might have. I'm open to different Linux distributions, but I've heard recommendations for Mint and Zorin. What should I know?

I’ve had good luck with those games on Linux! Discord runs smoothly, and you can get Helldivers 2 and The First Descendant to work easily. For Roblox, you might have to use Sober, which is a bit of a hassle. Minecraft Bedrock isn't directly supported, but you can find some unofficial options. I'd recommend starting with Mint or Zorin for your first Linux experience.

I’ve heard Discord is super stable on Linux. Helldivers 2 is compatible too! However, Minecraft Bedrock is tricky since it doesn't run natively on Linux, but there are third-party solutions out there. Roblox, unfortunately, doesn’t natively support Linux either, but you can use an application called Sober by VinegarHQ to run it. Overall, with a bit of effort, you can get most of your games running.

Absolutely, most of your favorites can be played with some adjustments. Discord is straightforward; Helldivers 2 and The First Descendant work smoothly with Proton. Minecraft Bedrock is a pain, but there's an unofficial Android port that can work if you own it through the Play Store. The only one that poses real issues is Roblox, but Sober can help! Mint is a fantastic choice for beginners.

Discord works really well on Linux, both the desktop and web versions. For Helldivers 2 and The First Descendant, they're rated as compatible with the Proton layer, which helps run Windows games on Linux. You might need some tweaks for Roblox and Minecraft Bedrock, but it’s doable. A good tip is to dual boot your system. That way, you can keep Windows as a backup just in case things don’t pan out as expected.
