Thinking About Switching to Linux for Gaming and Streaming, Any Tips?

I'm in a bit of a dilemma. My motherboard recently died, and I'm switching to an AM5 chip this Saturday. I've been a lifelong Windows user, but I've really disliked the direction Windows has gone lately, especially with Windows 11. With the new motherboard, I'll need a fresh install of the OS, but I'm not keen on going to Windows 11 or relying on Windows 10, which won't be supported for long. I'm considering making the leap to Linux, but the last time I tried Linux was in 2012 for a couple of weeks. I spend a lot of time gaming and my friends want me to start streaming. If I do decide to switch to Linux, what distributions would you recommend for heavy gaming and streaming use?

Honestly, I was in the same boat before switching to Linux. It really depends on how much you're willing to learn. You might find that it's not only a good OS for gaming but also intuitive once you get the hang of it. If gaming on Linux is your concern, checking ProtonDB for game compatibility will help a lot! Fedora is also a solid choice if you want up-to-date packages.

Good tip about checking game compatibility! I’ll definitely look into that before making any decisions.

I say go for it! Trying out Linux won't hurt, and you can always switch back to Windows later if it doesn't work out for you. If you're looking for something beginner-friendly, I highly recommend Linux Mint. It's easy to install and supports most games really well. I've been running it on my setup for months without issues.
