I'm really interested in making the switch to Linux, but I've got a couple of key questions. Primarily, I want to know how well it performs with VR gaming, especially since I use a Valve Index. Additionally, does the choice of distro really make a difference for my gaming and casual use, like watching movies or YouTube? If there's anything else I should consider before making the jump, I'd love to hear it! 🙂

From what I've seen, Linux might not be ideal for VR gaming overall. Some reports suggest that performance can lag behind Windows, but for regular browsing or watching movies, it should work perfectly fine. Just be cautious with streaming services like Netflix—there can be some throttling issues.
You could try downloading a live distro. That way, you can test it out on your hardware without having to commit right away. It's a good way to see how it handles VR and your usual stuff like movies and YouTube!
SteamVR on Linux can be tricky and not always stable; many users find it challenging to set up. You might run into some performance issues with VR games compared to Windows.
Fedora with KDE might be a solid choice. I've had good experiences with VR using this setup, but just remember that if you're using KDE, you'll want to stick with X11 instead of Wayland for the best SteamVR compatibility.
If you have an Nvidia graphics card, that can influence your experience significantly. Make sure you have the right drivers installed for the best performance, especially in gaming.
I have an Nvidia card and found that using their proprietary drivers helped a lot with graphics performance. It's definitely worth checking out!
