Thinking About Switching to Linux – Need Advice!

Hey everyone! I'm a 21-year-old female and I've recently bought a 2-in-1 laptop with Windows pre-installed, but it's loaded with bloatware. I've managed to remove quite a bit of the unnecessary stuff. I've heard a little about Linux before but wasn't sure if it was right for me since I often use Windows apps like Excel, Tally, and some games on the family desktop, where trying Linux wasn't an option due to potential compatibility issues. However, I recently watched a video comparing SteamOS (which is Linux-based) to Windows 11 on a Steam Deck, and I was impressed to see Linux outperforming Windows in gaming performance and battery life. Now that I have my own laptop, I'm eager to give Linux a try! I'm considering a dual boot setup so I can use Linux for browsing and compatible apps, but switch to Windows for anything that doesn't work on Linux. My laptop has a Ryzen 8845HS processor with a 780M iGPU, and I've heard AMD can be more compatible with Linux. Here are my main questions: Which Linux variant should I choose? Will installing it affect the touch screen and stylus support? Can I simply install SteamOS on my laptop? And will Linux cause any issues with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth? Thanks for your help!

I’d recommend against using SteamOS as your main desktop environment. It's not really designed for that. Instead, consider trying other distributions like CachyOS or Fedora; they’re generally better suited for standard use. Linux Mint is also a solid choice for beginners!

Totally agree! SteamOS isn't optimized for general desktop use. CachyOS or Fedora will give you a better experience, especially if you’re new to Linux.
