Thinking About Switching to Linux – Need Some Advice!

Hey everyone! I'm new here and have been considering making the switch to Linux for quite a while now. PewDiePie's latest video really pushed me to finally make up my mind. I currently use Windows 11 for studying, web browsing, gaming, and video recording/editing. Some of the programs I often rely on are IDM, Bandicam, OBS, Camtasia, and NohBoard, along with playing indie games and some pirated Steam games (I'm on a tight budget). My main reasons for the switch are privacy, greater customization and control, and improved performance with more storage. However, I've got a few concerns: 1) Will my current programs and games work? 2) I believe Linux distros don't have built-in antivirus—any recommendations for a decent free one, considering my little siblings might use the PC too? 3) What's the installation process like? Lastly, can I run Windows in a virtual machine to access stuff that's incompatible with Linux? And which distro would you recommend that is beginner-friendly, modern-looking, and compatible? Thanks a ton for any help!

I suggest trying out a few different distros until you find one that fits. There’s an article out there listing distros that are great for gaming and general computing. It’s often best to install a new distro on a separate disk to avoid any issues later on. Good luck!
