I've been a longtime Windows user but I'm considering making the switch to Linux. I have some experience with Linux, but I'm curious about a few things before I fully commit. I've primarily been using Linux Mint as I've set up a dual-boot system, which has been quite reliable for me. I've been using the Cinnamon desktop but also have Xfce installed. I have some concerns about Windows software compatibility, especially for gaming and creative software like photo and video editing tools, which I typically use on Windows. I'm particularly interested in finding out how well KDE Plasma performs on a 4K monitor compared to Cinnamon, as I've heard it offers better GUI scaling features. I also need to understand whether Linux has improved enough for gaming, especially with my Nvidia RTX 3080 Ti setup. Any recommendations on whether I should stick with Mint or try out Kubuntu, along with advice for running certain games and apps smoothly?

If you're looking to experiment, I highly recommend trying a live boot from a USB drive. I've been using Ubuntu for ages due to its stability, but I recently switched to Kubuntu and I love KDE Plasma for its customizability. I've never tried Mint, but since it's built on Ubuntu, you won't miss out on much. It's mainly about the choice of desktop environment; it sounds like you're comfortable with Cinnamon, though KDE offers even more tweaking options.
