Hey everyone! I'm considering making the jump to Linux because I'm really fed up with my current Windows setup. My system specs are: AMD A6 7310 APU with AMD Radeon R4 Graphics at 2GHz, 4GB RAM, and I'm running 64-bit Windows 10 Pro. I've been experiencing a lot of lag, and booting up takes ages. I suspect it might be malware since my task manager and registry editor get disabled at startup. I'm wondering if switching to Linux is a good option for me. Should I try dual booting? I do have some daily programs that only work on Windows. Any recommendations on which Linux distribution I should try?

Do you have an SSD or HDD? A slow computer often points to an HDD being the issue.
I recommend trying Linux Mint! Your specs seem well-suited for it. You can even boot it from a USB stick to see how it runs without installing anything first.
Will trying it off the USB affect my existing Windows setup?
Linux Mint XFCE is a fantastic choice. It's lightweight, super user-friendly, and has plenty of support. If you're looking for alternatives, MX Linux or Xubuntu are solid picks too.
Yeah, it does sound like malware is slowing you down. Malwarebytes is a good option for cleaning it up, just know that results can vary. Switching to Linux should help with performance overall, just don’t expect every game to run better. Maybe avoid Arch and its derivatives for now, as they can be a bit tricky to manage.

You can also check out Distrosea to try different distributions. It’s a great way to find the one that suits you! Just try booting from a USB stick and install if you find one you like.
