I'm considering implementing a monitoring wall for our Sys Admin and Network monitoring tasks. The goal is to keep an eye on various aspects, including:
- Online services like Microsoft and other external app outages.
- Network health, specifically ISP link availability.
- Overall infrastructure status, mainly server uptime or downtime.
- Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) from our ticketing systems.
What applications would you suggest for setting this up?

There are tons of tools out there; I suggest checking out Checkmk, Prometheus combined with Grafana, or Zabbix. But keep in mind, testing each of these can take a lot of your time which might be tight for you.
I'd love to set up a monitoring wall! I tried starting with CheckMK, but the onboarding for certain configs in the free version is taking longer than I expected.
I feel like a monitoring wall could be a waste of time and resources. Instead, focus on making notifications more meaningful, like text or email alerts that actually provide value.
But wouldn’t having real-time visuals on a wall help during network issues? A quick glance could show if a customer’s internet is down, right?
We use a WUG map displayed on a 55-inch TV, and it works brilliantly. The higher-ups find it impressive, and it keeps things transparent without overwhelming us.
Honestly, I've tried setting up a monitoring wall with multiple screens in the past, but found it more distracting than useful. It’s better to set alerts for actionable items instead of showcasing everything at once. A single, well-configured system can often do the job just as well!
Thanks for sharing your experience! It helps to know what works and what doesn't.

Definitely, it’s a lot to sift through. Just remember to look for one that meets your needs without complicating things further!
