Tips for Closing Frozen Full-Screen Apps on Windows 11

I've been playing Kingdom Come: Deliverance and it has frozen on me a couple of times. When this happens, I can still open other applications and use new desktops, but the game remains stuck on top and doesn't move. Even in the Win+Tab screen, I can see a message that says the game has stopped responding, but I can't access it to force close it. I also tried to record my screen to show the freeze, but Windows 11 doesn't seem to allow recording in full screen. Is there a way to force close the game without needing to restart my PC?

It might also help to change the game's settings to run in windowed mode instead of full screen. That way, if it freezes again, you might have better access to close it.

Another trick you could try is using Function + Escape; it might get you out of a full-screen freeze. Just keep in mind that it may behave differently depending on your keyboard settings.

You could try using Task Manager. Open it with Ctrl+Shift+Esc, go to the Details tab, find the game's process and choose 'End Task' from there. That’s often more effective than the general Processes tab when dealing with full-screen apps. If getting to Task Manager is tricky because the game covers it, try pressing Win+R, type in cmd, and then run this command: taskkill /f /im KingdomCome.exe. You might also want to set Task Manager to 'Always on Top' so it stays visible over frozen apps next time. And if this game keeps freezing, consider switching to borderless windowed mode; it tends to be more forgiving with these types of lockups.

Have you tried pressing ALT+F4? It usually works on frozen applications. If that fails, I recommend using a tool called Super F4; I've used it for years, and it reliably closes unresponsive programs without hassle.
