Hey everyone! We're in the process of migrating from our old file servers to M365 groups and SharePoint sites using the SharePoint migration tool. I'm reaching out to see if anyone has insights, experiences, or tips about important things to keep in mind during this transition. Any lessons learned or warnings would be super helpful! Thanks in advance!

Using Teams as the front end for the migration can actually help smooth things out, especially if you have a simple permission structure. Just keep in mind that syncing to desktops can be useful, but it also tends to get messy, so you’ll need to manage that carefully. Also, check compliance regulations for your data to ensure everything you upload meets the necessary standards.
Before you start migrating, make sure to lock down your sharing and collaboration settings. If you don't, your files could end up being publicly accessible, which is a major risk. Even after you secure them, you can never fully be sure if data has already been exposed, so better safe than sorry!
Excellent point, thank you!
Great tips, thank you!
