Tips for Starting Your First Programming Project

I've been diving into programming and finished most of CS50's courses, but I'm feeling a bit lost now that I want to start my own project. While the courses had clear guidance, I'm struggling to find a project idea that excites me. I'm feeling overwhelmed by the amount I still don't know, and it's making me hesitant to jump in. What kind of project should I tackle, or should I even start one at all? Also, how can I overcome this daunting feeling?

Check out the project ideas in the FAQ section; there are lots of suggestions for different levels. Starting with something small will really help you gain confidence. And about the final projects you skipped, those can be a great starting point too — they might seem overwhelming, but they push you to grow. Don't think you have to solve everything in a few hours; take your time!

Focus on making something useful to you! For instance, I built an expense tracker and it taught me a lot about Streamlit and Pandas. Choose a project you can finish in a reasonable time. My expense tracker started off simple but I was proud of it when I finished it in just one evening! You can always add on to it later.
