Hey everyone! I recently upgraded to an AOC Q27G4ZR monitor, which is a 27-inch Fast IPS screen with 1440 resolution and 240Hz refresh rate, replacing my older Asus VS248HR 24-inch TN panel. While the picture quality is stunning and it performs excellently for gaming, I'm experiencing significant eye strain, headaches, and a feeling of pressure around my eyes. It's especially noticeable when I'm just browsing or working, but it's not as bad during gaming sessions. I wear prescription lenses for astigmatism, but I never had these issues with my old monitor. I've tried switching from DP to HDMI, which helped a bit, but I'm still uncomfortable. After trying the old monitor again, it felt way better. Has anyone else had this experience with IPS displays? Is it due to the monitor type or the increase in size? Should I consider returning the AOC and going for a smaller upgrade?

I faced a similar issue when I switched monitors. It turned out my new IPS monitor needed proper calibration for my specific room lighting. Once I adjusted the settings, it became way more comfortable for me! The original brightness and color settings can sometimes be too intense out of the box. I recommend playing around with those settings until you find a balance that works for you.
Everyone's sensitivity can vary a lot. Have you adjusted the monitor's brightness to match your room's lighting? If the brightness is too different, it can cause strain regardless of the monitor. Sometimes lower brightness levels can help, too. Just make sure you're finding a setting that feels comfortable for you!
It sounds like PWM dimming or high brightness levels might be affecting your eyes. Sometimes, features like black frame insertion or specific backlight technologies can cause strain too. Have you thought about testing different monitor types? There are some VA panels like the h27e22 that have been reported to be easier on the eyes compared to IPS. Worth considering!
