Trouble with Event Viewer Error 154 When Playing Ark: Survival Ascended

Hey everyone! I've been getting this odd Event Viewer error (ID 154) that says, "The IO operation at logical block address 0x0 for Disk 4," but it only happens when I play Ark: Survival Ascended. My Disk 4 is an Orico 4TB M.2 NVMe drive, and it's always been reliable. I've checked its SMART status with CrystalDiskInfo—no errors at all. I even stress-tested it with CrystalDiskMark and everything came back clean. I also stress-tested my whole system with OCCT without finding any issues.

Here's a quick look at my system specs:
- Motherboard: Asus X570 Prime Pro
- RAM: 32GB (2x16 Kingston Hyper-X Fury 3200)
- CPU: Ryzen 7 5800X
- GPU: Sapphire Nitro+ RX 7800XT
- PSU: NZXT 850C
- SSD1: 4TB Orico OG7000 M.2 NVMe
- SSD2: 2TB Hiksemi HS-SSD-FUTURE M.2 NVMe
- HDDs of different sizes from Western Digital and Seagate.

I've managed to run other demanding games like Cyberpunk 2077 and Skyrim mods on this drive without any hiccups, but Ark seems to trigger the error every time. Has anyone encountered this issue, or do you have any suggestions on troubleshooting it? Thanks!

It sounds like a frustrating issue! If the error is pinpointing LBA 0x0, it might just be a benign error and not an immediate hardware problem. Since it only pops up with Ark: Survival Ascended, I'd focus on the game itself or your software setup. Maybe consider updating your chipset drivers and BIOS to iron out any potential bugs. Also, turning off PCIe Link State Power Management in Windows could help—it sometimes causes pesky storage errors. Since you ran stress tests successfully, it's less likely your SSD is failing, but testing the game on your other NVMe drive was a smart move! If the error follows the game there, it's probably something with Ark rather than the hardware.

Thanks for the tips! I’ll definitely check those settings. I actually moved Ark to my Toshiba SATA drive, and after hours of playing, I didn’t see any errors! It's puzzling that only Ark triggers the issue on the Orico drive.

I agree with the previous response. Event 154 often indicates a timeout or a reset rather than a directly failing SSD. If your SMART data is clear and other games run fine, the problem likely doesn't lie with the SSD itself. Check if Orico has a firmware update available for your drive to rule out any compatibility issues. Your stripped-down Windows setup might also play a role, so double-check that you haven’t inadvertently affected any storage or power management settings. If Ark: Survival Ascended continues acting up with that drive, you could be looking at a game-specific glitch.

You make a good point about firmware updates. I reached out to Orico, but they haven't responded yet. I'll keep trying to see if they have any info. And yeah, it looks like Ark might just have some weird compatibility issue with my SSD. I’m glad other games work without issue!
