I've got a Gigabyte RTX 2060 Rev 2 that's running pretty hot, with temperatures hitting above 83°C at 170W and around 75-77°C at 130W. I've heard that removing the plastic backplate can help with cooling. Is that true for my graphics card? Also, can the Thermalright Heilos V2 handle this GPU? Lastly, what are the risks if I don't replace the thermal pads on the VRAM and VRM?

If simply removing the plastic backplate worked wonders, manufacturers wouldn’t spend money to include it. They often use these for aesthetic purposes, so you might see only a small change if any. Let’s not forget, they could have saved costs with effective designs.
It could lower the temps slightly, but it’s likely not the main problem. If removing it was a magic fix, manufacturers wouldn’t bother installing them in the first place. Just make sure you look into other cooling options too.
Yeah, removing the backplate might help drop the temps a little, but probably not by much since it's just plastic. The backplate isn't the main culprit in overheating issue.
