Trouble with External HDD on HP Pavilion Laptop

I've got an HP Pavilion gaming laptop (model 15-dk1013nv) with both an SSD and an external HDD. Recently, I decided to transfer some files from my SSD to the external HDD to free up space. However, after doing that, when I restarted my laptop, it started freezing and lagging, and even the taskbar wasn't functioning properly. I ran CrystalDiskInfo, and the HDD health is showing as 'caution' with 88 reallocated sectors and around 1000 pending sectors. Now, those numbers have jumped dramatically to 248 reallocated sectors and 3384 pending sectors. I've tried quick formatting the drive twice and even attempted a full format, but it got stuck at 10% after over an hour, so I abandoned that. I'm at a loss for what to do next and would appreciate any suggestions.

What kind of files did you move? Sometimes those error messages pop up when software is missing because you moved files around. If it was just some game mods, it shouldn’t have caused those issues, but it’s worth double-checking what you moved.

I only transferred about 11GB of game mods, so it shouldn’t have caused any major issues. Just trying to figure out why the drive is acting up now.

It sounds like your external HDD might be failing, especially with those growing reallocated and pending sectors. My advice would be to consider replacing the drive before it completely fails. It’s better to be safe than lose important data!
