Troubleshooting Low Charging Current on Pixel XL

I'm working on repairing my old Pixel XL phone. Initially, it just had a dead battery, which I replaced. However, I think I might have damaged the charging port since it's not drawing enough current. I've tested three different batteries (the first two didn't fit well) and might have replaced the port board, but I'm still unable to get the phone to draw more than 0.3A. The charger and cable are in good shape because they work perfectly with other devices and provide the expected 2A. I've fixed various devices before and have some experience with repairs, but this is my first phone repair. I've looked into it and found suggestions to check the cable, charger, or battery, which I've already done. Any advice would really help!

It sounds like the phone is being cautious for safety reasons—if it detects something is off, it'll limit the charging current. A faulty or old battery might not draw full power either. Since these batteries are older, even if you got a 'new' one from Amazon, it could be subpar or not meet OEM standards. A non-genuine battery often causes the phone to throttle current. You might want to try sourcing a high-quality OEM battery to see if that resolves the issue.

Yeah, I totally agree. It’s worth checking with trusted sellers if you're going for a replacement. Sometimes aftermarket batteries just don’t cut it.

Have you considered that the charging port itself could be problematic? If it's damaged, it might prevent proper current flow. Since you’ve replaced it before, double-check the connections and make sure it's not loose or misaligned. Also, look out for any debris inside the port that might be interfering with the charge.

I didn’t think of that! I’ll take another look at the port just to be safe. Thanks for the tip!
