I've been noticing monthly charges on my debit card for an AWS account that I never opened or used, totaling $180 since March 2025. At first, I assumed they were from Amazon purchases, but it dawned on me in May that something was off. I reached out to AWS support, but they couldn't assist me without logging in. When I tried to reset my password, I realized I could access the account tied to the email where the charges are appearing, but the account showed no activity whatsoever. Has anyone else encountered something like this? I'm currently waiting for a response from support, but I'm unsure how long that will take and what my next steps should be.

Sorry to hear about your hassle! It sounds frustrating. Make sure to escalate your issue with AWS Billing; they should be able to help. If you've got a case number, don't hesitate to use it. Also, keep an eye on your email for any important updates from them!
I can't believe you've been hit with these charges and no one has helped yet! Make sure AWS knows it's urgent. I’d recommend filing a claim with your bank as a precaution. They may have more tools to help you navigate this than AWS support seems to offer.
I agree! I’m definitely not waiting around. I’ll be getting in touch with the bank too. Thanks for chiming in!
It's pretty alarming that someone set up an account with your details! It does sound like fraud, especially if there's no activity on that account. I would definitely suggest that you contact your bank immediately to dispute the charges and maybe even get a new card to prevent future charges. Also, keep pushing AWS support; they need to take this seriously!
Thanks for the advice! I’m already on that path to dispute with the bank, but I’ll keep bugging AWS too.
You should definitely go ahead and cancel your card that's being charged. After that, dispute the charges with your credit card company and make sure to explain the situation clearly. Getting a new card would be smart too! If AWS doesn't respond quickly, at least you'll be safe from further charges.
Thanks for the tip! I’ve started that process, just trying to gather as much info as I can while waiting for AWS.
Thanks, Hannah! I appreciate the support. I’ll keep my eyes peeled for any updates.
