Hey everyone! I built my gaming PC about 5 years ago during the pandemic, and while it's been serving me well for 144Hz gaming at 1080p, I've been having some performance issues, especially when it comes to streaming. Here's a quick rundown of my specs:
- **CPU:** AMD Ryzen 5 3600 3.6 GHz 6-Core Processor
- **Motherboard:** ASRock B450M Pro4 Micro ATX
- **RAM:** TEAMGROUP T-Force Vulcan Z 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-3200
- **Storage:** Western Digital Blue 1 TB M.2-2280 SATA SSD
- **GPU:** PowerColor Red Devil Radeon RX 5600 XT 6 GB
- **Case:** Rosewill SPECTRA D100 ATX Mid Tower
- **PSU:** Corsair CX650M 650 W 80+ Bronze
I've been playing games like CSGO, League, Rocket League, and some single-player titles without issues if I'm not streaming. However, when I try to stream, the video encoding and performance drop significantly. I was told back when I built the PC that NVidia GPUs are better for streaming, and my B450 motherboard might limit future upgrades.
What do you all think I should focus on upgrading? Would a new CPU, motherboard, and RAM be enough to improve my streaming experience, or should I consider a new GPU too? Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

Honestly, if you're looking to get serious about streaming, transition to AM5 with upgraded CPU and RAM. Maybe consider a 7700X, and check out AMD GPUs like the 9060XT for better performance. You won't regret it!
Upgrading to an AM5 setup could be the way to go! I recommend focusing on a new CPU, motherboard, and RAM. An upgrade to something like a Ryzen 7600X along with a good B650 board and 32GB of RAM would really boost your performance during streaming and gaming. Just make sure it fits your budget!
I found a great deal nearby for an AM5 bundle with a 7600X and 32GB of RAM for around CAD 479, seems like a solid investment!
It really comes down to your budget! There are some decent upgrades without breaking the bank. If you're flexible, consider the Ryzen 5600X or 5700X if your current board supports it, but you might want to think about going for AM5 instead for future proofing. For GPUs, AMD has made significant strides with their new lines that are nearly on par with Nvidia.
What about pairing that with a Radeon RX 9600 XT? Is that a good match?
Yeah, that's on my radar! Just worried about compatibility with my SSD since I'm using SATA right now.
So you think the CPU and RAM would impact streaming more than upgrading the GPU?
