Upgrading an Intel NUC 13 Pro for Gaming

I'm looking to upgrade the gaming setups for me and my girlfriend. We both have the Intel NUC 13 Pro Arena Canyon with 16GB of RAM and a 512GB SSD. The goal is to play Minecraft All The Mods 10 with a render distance of 12 and a simulation distance of 8-12, using Complementary Reimagined shaders, without experiencing any lag or frame drops. I can't afford to buy a full PC at once, so I'm hoping to upgrade components piece by piece. I know that might sound odd, but I see this as an opportunity to learn more about PC hardware. Any advice on how to go about this would be greatly appreciated! Also, I'm aware the refresh rate of the monitors is important. I have a Sceptre 75Hz curved monitor and my girlfriend has a Dell 100Hz monitor. If hers isn't good enough, I just bought it recently and can return it for something better in the same price range of around $150 or slightly higher. What do you think?

Unfortunately, NUCs and most mini PCs aren't very upgradeable like traditional desktops. You can usually swap in a bigger SSD or add more RAM, but beyond that, you're pretty limited due to their compact design. If you're aiming for a more powerful gaming experience, you may eventually need to consider a new PC altogether.

Is it totally impossible to connect other components, like a different motherboard? Maybe there's a way to expand it after all?
