Hey all! I've built a few PCs in the past, but it's been over four years since my last one. I'm planning to upgrade my CPU to an AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D, replacing my current Intel i7-4790. I want to upgrade my graphics card later, but I need to replace the motherboard first since my current one can't handle a more powerful CPU. I'm thinking about going with the ASRock B650 PG LIGHTNING ATX AM5 motherboard. What do you think? Is it a good choice, or is it overkill? Also, I currently have a GTX 2070 Super, but I might switch to a 5070 Ti in the future. I'd appreciate any advice!

I’d steer clear of ASRock for the Ryzen 9000 series. They’ve had issues with frying those chips. I'd recommend getting a B850 motherboard instead; it’s more future-proof, especially for PCIe 5. Plus, it’s better to play it safe with a higher quality board!

Are you suggesting a B850 by Gigabyte or does the brand not matter? Also, what's the big deal about PCIe 5? I know it's used for things like capture cards, but is there a specific need for it?
