Hey everyone! I hope you're all doing well. I'm transitioning from Windows to Linux due to some recent frustrations with Windows 11, and I'm looking for some guidance on upgrading my old PC. Currently, I have an Intel Core i3 2130 CPU, a GeForce GTX 550 Ti GPU, and 12GB of RAM on a Gigabyte H61M-S1 motherboard. While it handles daily tasks and older games reasonably well, I want to upgrade the CPU and GPU for better compatibility with Linux gaming, especially since I've heard that my current GPU might present issues with Proton. I'm considering an Intel Core i7-3770 paired with an 8GB AMD Radeon RX580. Would this setup be sufficient for modern gaming and other applications? Are there compatibility concerns I should know about, or should I explore different options? Thanks for the help!

From my experience with a Vega 56, which is a step up from the RX580, you'll be on the edge for the latest AAA games. Titles from the 2010s shouldn't be an issue, but be prepared to lower settings for anything newer. If you're okay with that compromise, you should be fine!

I'm definitely open to lowering the settings, especially since I prefer 2D and retro-style games. My main concern is driver compatibility, as my current GPU struggles with the latest Nvidia drivers. I'm wondering if that will be a problem on Linux too.
