I'm currently running a setup with 8GB of DDR3, a GTX 750 Ti, and an i3-2370m. I'm looking for an upgrade since some games my friends play are just too demanding for my rig. I'm considering getting a used 1080 Ti, along with 24GB of DDR4 salvaged from laptops and a Ryzen 5 5500. My gaming preference is above 20fps at 1680x1050 on my 16:10 monitor, and I'm not too concerned about ray tracing—just want solid performance at a decent visual level. My budget for this upgrade is around $300, excluding case, RAM, or storage. Does anyone think the 1080 Ti is too outdated for this plan?

Upgrading from a GTX 750 Ti to a 1080 Ti will give you a massive performance boost. The 1080 Ti still holds up pretty well for most games, especially if you're not aiming for the highest settings.
